Wall Ties/Crack Stitching
The combination of HeliBar reinforcement and HeliBond cementitious grout makes
repairing and stabilising cracked masonry quick, easy and permanent
- Austenitic stainless steel reinforcing bars
- Fully
concealed, non-disruptive repair system
- Cost-effective and more reliable than
crack injection methods
- HeliBond cementitious grout is injectable and rapidly
produces high compressive strength
- HeliBar rods and HeliBond grout produce excellent
bond strength within the masonry
- HeliBars combine great axial strength with
flexibility
|
- No additional stresses introduced
- Tensile loads redistributed along the masonry
- Masonry remains flexible enough accommodate normal building
movement
- Minimises changes of the crack developing
- Reduces likelihood of further cracking nearby
- Avoids the need for costly and disruptive taking down and rebuilding
- Permanent and sympathetic solution

Cross sections of solid wall and cavity wall showing HeliBar rod installed. DryFix remedial wall ties may be required for additional stability.

Points to note
A. Where two
or more cracks are close together these may be stitched using one continuous length of HeliBar which must be long enough to
extend 500mm beyond the outer cracks. E.g. if there are three cracks, each 250mm apart, then the overall length of HeliBar
required would be 1.5m.
|
C. Ensure that no mortar is left attached to the exposed
brick faces within the cut slot in order to ensure a good masonry/grout bond.
|
E. As standard, slots should be 10mm wide to accommodate
the 6mm diameter HeliBar. For thin joints use 4.5mm HeliBar.
|
B. The horizontal slot, normally the mortar bed,
can be cut using a twin diamond blade chaser with vacuum attachment, and angle grinder or a mortar chisel.
|
D. Prepare the slot with HeliBond Primer or thoroughly
wet the slot with clean water.
|
F. HeliBond grout is the recommended bonding agent.
PolyPlus resin is used for smaller jobs and where loads are to be rapidly applied.
